Ascent Trip ReportI thought this would this would be a throw away hike as its a short, practically paved trail to the crater but It turned out I was wrong. The views from the top into the crater below and out in the horizon are incredible. We hiked up from the parking lot in an hour and 12 minutes. One you get to the top of the "new" Reach the Peak Trail you have to use an unmaintained climbers trail to the actual summit a few feet away. We weren't 100% sure on which little summit spire was the true summit (there are about 4) so we climbed on top of each one. There is one with some incredible lightning strikes, better than on Mount Thielsen. We knew about the Lassen Volcanic Wilderness Highpoint and couldn't resist an excuse to go walk the crater rim of the moon scape landscape. We spend about 45 minutes exploring the crater and hiked back down in 1 hour and 3 minutes.
