Ascent Trip Report

The Italianos is the third trail on your left as you drive up the road from Arroyo Seco toward the Ski Valley. I joined my Thursday hiking club on the trail. As usual with this speedy group I fell behind the pack. The many stream crossings (always a minor peril on this trail) had higher water than any other time I remember. Even with perfect balance, judicious foot placement, and water proof boots you were going to get wet feet. We've had better than average snow pack from the winter and well above average spring rains so every stream in the area is runnng high. After numerous crossings the trail ascends with switchbacks through the woods. At a bit under 3 miles out I hit a small meadow and turned around shortly thereafter because I had to be back in town to take my wife to the dentist in a couple of hours. I forgot my GPS this morning, so listed mileage and elevation gain are educated guesses.
