Ascent Trip Report

Loop trail up Rider Hollow-Mine Hollow, side to Belleayre + took pine hill west branch trail to balsam, back down to rider hollow. Broke trail to Bellayre (barebooted). Nice weather, ~ 30F, clear, no wind, a bit blood pumping up the hollow. Snow wasnt 1-2 inches on most of trail except close to summit on bellayre and balsam, where snow was ~ 6". Crampons would have been useful on descent down rider hollow (very steep and icy) and parts of balsam. Some blowdown from ice storm but nothing prohibitive or too annoying. Met small group of hikers from woodstock area and (Spain!) on their way up to Balsam from junction w/ Oliveria Mapledale Trail (likely hiked from mckinley hollow).
