Ascent Trip Report

The road had been plowed and the gate opened for the annual New Years Day access to the peak so folks can load their pickups with snow for snowball fights in the tropics. We benefited from this unexpected opportunity, drove to the observatories in an extremely windy white-out, donned our warm clothes, and followed the GPS to the pre-loaded waypoint, following the go-to arrow to the summit that we would NEVER have found without the GPS in those conditions. Actually, we wouldn't have even tried without the GPS because there was no guarantee we would find our way back to the car either!
