Ascent Trip Report

Got bus from outside train station in X'ian, hiked up past the temple, paid the entry fee (half price if you present ANY foreign ID card, e.g. driving licence, in place of a student card - this trick also works at the Terracotta Warriors & many other places in China). Don't feel the slightest bit of guilt, Chinese national parks are the most overpriced in the world and I was travelling on a backpacker's budget.

After a steep climb up past a waterfall & up a near vertical stone ladder section we reached the North Peak, which was crowded with Chinese tourists who had taken the cable car up, all wanting to take selfies with the foreigners. After a lunch of overpriced noodles we continued on to the famous "Plank Road in the Sky" - a very cool experience - before summiting the South Peak.

Unsure of transport links from the bottom & not wanting to be stranded in the Chinese countryside, we decided to take the cable car down from near the West Peak, a taxi to the station, & caught the train back to X'ian. Overall a great hike & a must-do activity for anyone visiting X'ian.
