Ascent Trip ReportOne year wedding anniversary hike with my wife. We did a sunny Sunday in May - the loop of Webster and Jackson.
Parked at Crawford House around 9am and there were already around 20 cars in the lot. Cross the street and took the Webster-Jackson trail up to the summit of Webster which took about 2.5 hours. We did encounter a tiny bit of snow but it was well packed and we bare-booted it. We tagged the Webster summit and ran into 60 mph winds. After a quick lunch, we continued north on the Webster Cliff Trail to Jackson. There was also a tiny bit of snow on this trail (also well packed down). There was a decent amount of traffic but nothing too bad and we encountered the same windy conditions on the Jackson summit. Clear views in all directions of the rest of the presidential range and west past Crawford Notch to the Hancocks.
We continued down the trail back to our cars where we encountered a little bit more snow. I did take a nasty fall on the way down from going much too fast and slipping on a wet rock. Fortunately I walked away with just a bruised knee and a badly scraped arm. Could have been much worse. In the end, it took almost seven hours on a gorgeous day in May. |
