Ascent Trip ReportGreat weather but the bugs are starting to get bad, gypsy moths dropping from the trees everywhere from their spiderweb like silks. They ended up on our clothing and in our hair, everywhere. The worst part was the silks in the face and on the arms. We started from the old ski area parking lot following the yellow trail past the pond, up the hill to the intersection with the AT. Turning left from here to check out Hippo Rock, boulderable and seems has been worked on with evidence of chalk on some of the holds. the rock resembles the Buda in the Gunks. Here we continued to the top of the hill a short way up then returned to the intersection with the yellow trail. Here we continued on the AT to the shelter for a short break then continued on to Cave rock. The caves here are pretty cool, one that has a chimney built into it, resembling something you would see in the lean-to. It's certainly one of the best cave options for an overnight in a pinch I have seen. Continuing on we turned left on the fire road returning us to the yellow trail near the pond which returned us to the car. Good day, Good hike.
