Ascent Trip Report

Incredible view and easy access from Juneau using the Mt. Roberts Tram ($33). Apparently you can get less expensive, 'local' tickets in 'the valley' (Auke Bay area?).

The weather throughout SE Alaska was perfect for ~2 weeks (70s and mostly sunny), so hiking was a popular pastime. The footing to Gold Ridge was good - mostly trailed with a few short (~20-50') snow stretches.

The view extends to the upper peaks of the Taku icefield (towards Canada) and out over the upper elevations of Admiralty Island. There were hundreds (thousands?) of people at the tram station, many from the four cruise ships in the harbor, but I only saw six other people make it all the way up to Gold Ridge while I was up there for ~1.5 hours.
