Ascent Trip ReportThe four of us parked down on Invergordon and then hiked up the Cholla Trail. There were many people out because the temperature was around 70 degrees. It was sunny at the start, but by the time we reached the flat saddle lookout the sun was behind the clouds and it looked like rain was coming across the valley. We made it to the top, but turned around after five minutes because we felt a drop of rain. Mom hiked with her poles and led the way down despite being nervous about the rough terrain. She did fine. It began raining when we were 20' from the car, but we got in almost totally dry. It rained in bursts over the next half hour of driving.
This was a great class 2 hike for a family. I'm not sure if I would say this was easier than Echo. The Echo Trail was steeper, but I definitely used my hands less on that side, where they were needed on Cholla. The crux of the Echo Canyon Trail was the high stepping over boulders and the steep pitch. Choose which type of hike you'd rather do or avoid to get to the top of Camelback.
