Ascent Trip Report

Alan Bernier and I completed the Ct. county high points on the slope of Mt. Frissell, Alan’s second completion and my first. We did all of the Ct. and RI chp’s in just under 72 hours with many other peaks along the way as well. We took the trail from Mt. Washington Rd. up and over nearby Round Mt., up Mt. Frissell, and then the short leg down to the state line.

I found this to be a beautiful hike for my state completion: a gorgeous morning climb with magnificent views. Some of the previous trip reports had led me to expect a somewhat more difficult climb that it seemed to be. We stopped to sign registers at both the Ct. SHP and Frissell as well as a number of picture taking stops, and it took us just a hair under two hours (much to Alan’s disgust; he’s a much faster hiker than I am, but he’s patient because I’m a geezer). Someone only a bit younger (I’m 67) and fitter than I am should easily be able to make the round trip in well under an hour and a half. There are several steep rocky patches. Alan and I debated whether they were class 2 or 3. He votes 2, but I needed my hands at several spots, so I’d say at least 2+
