Ascent Trip ReportDrove up a driveway on Tower Hill Road and got permission from the owner to scramble up the rock outcrop between his and his neighbor's property. He had recently purchased and moved into the house as of 10/2014, and we were the first people to stop in and ask permission. Seemed very friendly and accommodating. Note that the cell towers on a nearby bump to the east are not the highest point, nor are they a useful access point since there are houses directly adjacent to the highpoint on both sides.
NB: In reviewing the USGS benchmark data sheet for Beacon Pole, I came across a statement that the benchmark is "about 200 meters east" of the highest part of the hill. The CalTopo maps show a higher 550'+ contour area west of the benchmark, 547'. This backs up my assertion that the area near the tower is not the highest point. MyTopo mapping software has older
map data that shows both candidates. CalTopo may be an older data set, but it does show that extra contour area atop the western bump.
