Ascent Trip Report

Forest Service reports that private timber gates are left open until high fire season when they are closed for the duration. Trail to Tumwater is wonderful. It is within the Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument and is surrounded by mature forest the whole way. About a mile from the TH, is a fantastic waterfall cascading over a huge overhang. We had to wade the Goat Creek crossing. Not difficult, but cold. Summit spur trail 218A is abandoned and the easiest access to the top seemed to be from the east. The eastern HP is in trees with the remains of an old antenna. The western HP countour is in the open with excellent views of Rainier, Adams, Hood, and St. Helens.
