Ascent Trip ReportCoHP – WOOD COUNTY, OHIO
After completing Marion County, I headed to Fostoria to visit the two contours in Wood County. My first stop was the northern contour. I drove through Fostoria on US 23. When I passed Pelton Road on the left (W Township Road 84), I knew I was close. I watched for the white board fence mentioned by Bob Schwab. I saw two buildings that appeared to be the destination, a peach-colored house and a large barn. I turned in at the larger, barn-like structure.
I got out of my car and began to investigate. As I was returning to my car, I was met by two boys on a go-cart. I asked if they had seen the BM I was trying to find. They knew exactly where it was, and they led my car to park near a house.
The boys were grandsons of Mr. Flowers. We were soon joined by Mr. Flowers’ son. They walked with me to the BM, which was actually BM Fostoria RM No 1. The arrow on the BM pointed into a farm field. I snapped a couple photos of the marker, and I then wandered into the field to make sure I visited the HP.
As I left the property, I noted the address on the mailbox was 3231 US Hwy 23. I drove south back to Fostoria to visit the “Pizza Hut” contour. I parked in the Pizza Hut lot and walked north along the road. I walked significant distances along the sidewalk in both directions to be sure I tagged the HP. I agree with Bob’s assessment that the highest ground was likely the front yard for the house just south of Pizza Hut.
