Ascent Trip Report

Absolutely perfect day for a hike. Upper 50s when I started around noon, low 60s when I got back 3 hours later, and not a cloud in the sky. No wind even at the summit. Parked at Petersburgh Pass on Rt. 2 and the view even from there was nice. Patches of snow on the ground, particularly on the initial steep ascent up the side of Mt. Raimer and near the summit, both of which had places where the snow was still probably 8-12 inches deep. Packed down enough to walk on top of for the most part though. No snow on the summit itself, just in the shady areas. Took a couple of wrong turns on the way up (note for future climbers: stick to the blue-blazed Taconic Crest trail, there are no good shortcuts). Hit the top of Mt. Raimer on the way back and bushwhacked down from there to the parking lot and pulled 3 ticks off myself when I got there.
