Ascent Trip ReportFrom Kennedy Meadows. A 15.5 mile / 3600' gain hike. Overall, a pleasant hike with not much bushwacking via the route I took, but it was still hard to move fast with down trees and the small stumps from burnt bushes. Although, I arrived at the peak closer the southern side, I traversed along the east side of the summit ridge looking for what would be an easy way up to the summit and found ended it just north of the summit (maybe a little easy Class 3). I ended up popping up onto the summit ridge north near the knife-edge ridge and traversed over the ridge to the summit (the knife-edge is a dull knife-edge because it is wide enough to walk across unless it is really windy). As shown on the GPX file, I hiked both old and new sections of the PCT. I'd guess I saved a little bit of mileage and a couple hundred feet elevation gain on the way out by taking one long section of the Old PCT, which was fine with how low the Kern River is but you won't want to do that section if the Kern is raging as you don't cross at the bridge.
