Ascent Trip ReportBeautiful day. Fair bit of snow, covering much of the trail. I brought microspikes but didn't use them; I was happy to have poles, though. Saw no one on the way up, five people on the way down. The trail was well trodden until the turnoff for Alta Meadow, at which point it became indistinct, so I went up the chute instead of going around Tharps Rock. This made for a shorter but steeper climb, through alternating snow and exposed talus and scree—less rock and more snow higher up. On the way down, the snow was too soft, so I wound up sticking to the scree on the north side of the chute. Two hikers going up as I was going down used the scree both ways, which probably was more sensible. Five hours up; four hours down.
