Ascent Trip ReportI used Tom Owen's route to the summit with no problems.. easy and quick. The Park Boundary Posts along Otter Creek Road where Tom started the hike (300 yards east of the Park entrance) are confusing to me.
Rose dropped me off at Tom's TH and then drove down (wait for me) at the Parks parking area, .6 miles down Otter Creek Road.
The Boundaries of Radnor Lake State Park and the Radnor Lake State Natural Area are very confusing. I conclude that the Boundaries of the Natural Area are inside those of the State Park. If this is correct then I understand why Tom has added the provisional peak to PB "Radnor Lake State Natural Area HP".
I chose my DAVIDSON COUNTY HP at 36.06468,-86.78375, which puts the spot about 5 yards (south) of the Natural Area Boundary Line (I lined up 2 E-W Boundary Posts on the line shown on the topo map)).
The HP for the RADNOR LAKE STATE NATURAL AREA is on this E-W Boundary Line at 36.06479,-86.78379.
After spending a bunch of time trying to understand the boundary Lines I descended the ridge to the north with the idea of going over to Tyne Ridge(prov). When I got to the col I could see a road going to its summit capped with a huge residence of sorts. I decided to abort and leave it for someone else to explore.
On my walk back to the parking area I was presented with an amazing happening .... perhaps the most beautiful encounter with nature that I've had in my life. About 50 yards before the parking as I walked down the road facing traffic a Huge Owl flew just to my left and perched himself on an tree stump 3 yards away .... I couldn't believe ..... he looked at me at what seemed forever before turning his back to me. I tried to get his attention by making noise hoping that he'd look at me ..... nothing doing, just sat there.
I called for Rose to come over with the camera so we could record this beautiful moment. The guy waited there the whole time and somehow knew to fly away after I got my photos?????
I believe he knew that people are his friend. He had the most amazing eyes.
