Ascent Trip ReportI followed the Summit Post directions of Dartmouth Hiker, going 5.6 miles due east on Jefferson Dr and staying left at the end of the paved road and going another 0.6 miles east to a gate. On the gate, there are 2 signs, "Private Property" and "No State Lands". These signs led me to believe that the land owners do not want hikers or hunters going beyond the gate.
I went back to where the pavement ended and parked my car. I went north on the open land, following the fence line, for about 1/3 mile to the end of the fence where the gate was attached and then headed east towards a small canyon where you can see leads to the north end of the the Swisshelm Mtns and Peak 6605. This canyon can be seen as you are heading south on US-191, if you coming South from I-10. This canyon is on the northerly side of the mountain range, it is north of the route taken by Peavy. I followed the mining road in the canyon to the base of Peak 6605, then took the ridge to the right that takes you to Peak 6605. Once at Peak 6605, you can see the summit of Swisshelm to the SE and it is a fairly easy traverse over a few bumps to get there. I crossed private land to get to the canyon and saw several people who did not seem to care.
