Ascent Trip ReportThis was the second peak climbed in a combined CMC-DPS trip. For the approach, drive 7.6 north on Hwy 95 from Arrowhead Junction and turn left onto a pole line dirt road. Go 0.8 mi. leave the pole line road turning right onto a dirt road heading west. Then drive west on the dirt road for 3.4 miles passing through a fenceline at 1.4 mi. and staying right at a road junction at 2.8 mi. At the 3.4 mi mark, we turned left onto a dirt road that headed south towards the peak and parked at an abandoned mine 1 mi. up this road. Overall the dirt roads to our selected trailhead were in good shape, although 4WD is highly recommended for going through a few short sandy washes.
The road actually continues for another 0.2 mi. but we were now only a mile or so from the summit, so a short walk on the dirt road would be a good warm-up. Where this road dropped into the wash to the left, we continued SW to the right of the wash gradually gaining elevation. After about a half mile of walking we turn more west heading up a ridge that brought us to the steeper NW ridge that leads to the summit. The final summit ridge was rather rocky and the highpoint was at the west end.
A register was at the summit placed by Gordon Macloed and Barbara Lilly back in the 1980s. Our group was the first to sign in since Don Palmer signed it in 2007.
