Ascent Trip Report

A few friends of mine and I started out our trip to Mt. Hawkins on Saturday, November 22nd at the Islip Saddle parking lot. A cool morning with a thin cloud cover greeted us as we started up the trail. Quite a contrast to last Saturday's weather and devastating results! We reached Little Jimmy campground rapidly and then after a quick stop at the spring wound our way to the top of Hawkins. Still no register there (where have they all gone?) but enjoyed the views which were great. On our descent we tagged Middle Hawkins and decided not to go further to Saddie and South Hawkins due to time restraints. Took the fire road down to the ACH and hiked back to our starting point (Road looks in great shape... I understand that the bridge repairs are coming along nicely on the Vincent Gap end. Hopefully they'll open it in the Spring. That would be great!)

Trip Log:

Islip Saddle parking lot- 8:45am
Little Jimmy campground- 9:53am
Mt. Hawkins summit- 12:18pm
Middle Hawkins summit- 1:43pm
return to parking lot- 4:20pm

One of the highlights of the day was on the drive home. An amazing display of colors when the sun set. Another great day of hiking in SoCal!
