Ascent Trip ReportThis is a short (about 1/2 mile of hiking/climbing) but strenuous climb to a great peak with outstanding views. The peak and the trail are entirely on private property owned by the Salvation Army adjacent to Malibu Creek State Park. It is possible to obtain permission to hike the peak by checking in with the main office (Monday through Friday only), and signing a liability waiver. They will give you directions to the trailhead. While there is a clearly marked trail all the way to the top, there are some surprisingly challenging class 3 climbing sections, and the trail is brushy at times, and not terribly well-maintained. I found my poles to be a hindrence in most sections of the hike but helpful toward the bottom of the downhill part. Please respect the owner's procedures to protect the current public access. |
