Ascent Trip Report

Highpoint of Bridgend - my 12th county highpoint in Wales, was not an obvious approach. I drove up the A4061 up through "The Valleys" and made a left at the A4107 and noticed the "Welcome to the Valleys" sign painted onto the rock. I continued down the A4107 for about 3 miles until I saw the highpoint to my left, to the South. There was no obvious place to park - so I found an area to pull off to the side and drop the car. I walked down the road until I reached the approach to the highpoint - which there is no obvious one. I sort of just hopped the road barrier and a wire fence and shimmied up the snowy hill until I reached a barbed wire fence, which I also jumped (a required skill for county highpointers), and then made the final approach to the trig point, which is to the right (East) of two communication towers . I enjoyed spending time on the highpoint - it was a clear day, and I was able to see the white dunes of the the white dunes of the Brecon Beacons. As I made my way down I just followed my footprints in the snow (snowshoes would have come in handy), directing to where I hopped the metal road barrier - I slipped as I was going over it and took a chunk out of the skin on my hand as it came down on the barrier... lucky to have my first aid kit in the car - bandaid on, highpoint down, hit the road up to Craig y Llyn for the next HP of the day.
