As I stepped out of my car, I scanned the surroundings and noted that the highest ground was right next my car, near this large tree. I walked over to the large main house, signed as “11921”. A sign on the porch stated “homeowner since 1997”, so I was expecting to meet the same people that had greeted Bob S. on his 2001 visit.
I knocked at the door and could hear the Colts football game playing on the TV. A man answered the door and introduced himself as John Talley. I apologized for interrupting the football. He told me it didn’t matter much because he is now a Denver Broncos’ fan, following Peyton Manning when the Colts traded him.
He led me off the porch and over to the tree where I had parked. “You’re on the highest ground”, he proclaimed. We talked a bit more, and then I thanked him for allowing me to visit his property. I returned to my car, pleased with how easy this county was conquered. I was ready to visit my next stop, Posey County, less than 10 miles away.
