Ascent Trip ReportI "bagged" this peak on my way back from Philly en route to the Pittsburgh area. I originally planned to hike spruce knob on the same day, but iot make NYE plans could not do both. I inputted "backbone mountain into my GPS and set out (no problems in the past with this method). Google maps took me to a completely different mountain which I dutifully climbed and was rewarded with a beautiful view of an outhouse. Not just a normal plastic run of the mill outhouse either, but a glorious ala West Virginia wooden rickety outhouse. I retreated from outhouse mountain and looked up Summit Post's manual directions...backbone mountain is actually 20 min away from outhouse mountain so I moved on, successfully found it, parked in the gravel area and ascended. There were a couple other people whom I passed on the trail but I had the summit to myself. The trail was well marked with red spray paint (unlike outhouse mountain's ambiguous directions). The hike was extremely easy, it took maybe 45 min counting time on the summit, and I was walking at an easy gait.
