Ascent Trip ReportMet a guide (Porfirio) when got off bus in Jarabacoa. After some negotiation he agreed to take me up to the trailhead on his motorcycle and have someone else guide me up the mountain. Ended up going up with two guides and two lovely French ladies. Two days -- up to shelter first day, summit and back second day. I felt awful when I got to the shelter as I had been sleep-deprived for the past 5 days.(Finding a quiet place to sleep in Jarabacoa, or indeed anywhere in the Dominican Republic, is a challenge!) Slept in my hammock even though the guides said it would be cold. It was not cold. It was maybe a low of 50F. |
