Ascent Trip Report

Brother wanted to try something with a little more elevation after mount zion with his trip to washington and requested mount Ellinor. He, his wife, and I set out early in the morning and drove up forest roads with no trouble until just before upper trailhead due to wimpy rent a car Prius. Initial trail was very pleasant but grew into heavy snow very quickly. Snow was mostly compacted on trail but was up to a three feet in some places, leading to some post holing. We passed several groups descending just after the summer and winter trail junction. They said they turned back due to the trail running out and severe wind. We pressed on and forged new trail an additional ways to the pass encountering significant wind and new snow fall which obliterated our newly made trail in seconds. We decided to descend due to all in party not comfortable continuing. Back at trailhead it started snowing pretty hard, seeming to validate the decision. Will have to return in summer.
