Ascent Trip Report

We found the direction for route 1 a little confusing at the beginning. Tried going through the locked gate, past the ranger station, through another gate, sort of through the wash, etc., but soon realized that was not the TH we needed. We had parked in the first lot on the left, so we went back and started over. We saw the sign for Chaparrosa Trail and for the bus overflow lot; we went up that ramp and saw the Chaparossa Trail sign on the far left of the upper parking area. After that, the trail is very straight forward and well marked with "trail" signs along the first half or so of the hike. Thanks to those who have lined some of the trail with rocks. The only confusing part might be the junction of the jeep trail and single-track trail, but look for the horse and arrows painted on the rock--follow that and the trail is fairly clear to the peak. There is a register on the peak that could use a new can. There were lots of footprints to follow. After the hike, we had lunch at Pappy and Harriet's, really good food--it was packed, which I found amazing, since it's in the middle of nowhere.
