Ascent Trip ReportThis was the third peak of the day. We turned off SR-2 at the West Dolomite Mine Trail sign. Followed the dirt/off-road until we reached a T intersection. Turned left towards the mine. As you get closer to the mine, you will need 4wd. Otherwise park near the intersection, it wont add too much mileage to the hike. I parked at a lower parking area as there were two vehicles parked closer to the mine. I didn't know if I would be able to park and/or turn around. What's hiking another tenth of a mile? We started hiking from the mine remnants along an old road. The old road quickly does a few switchbacks as well as shrink to a use trail. After a little while we were just XC up to the summit. The views from the summit are great. Took plenty of pictures including the "mine" benchmark. We signed the register. As daylight was waning (especially due to the storms to the west), we didn't stay too long. We explored a different route back. I was different not necessarily better. |
