Ascent Trip Report

Simple. This is a CA state park. I realized on the way down that that could be an issue as I'd been to CA parks before where they banned dogs. This had me concerned as I had no viable plan B and I hike with my dog! But when we got to the gate they told me that there was only one hike in the park open to dogs, as the guy saw Elvis in the back. I was like, yeah, that's the hike I am doing. I was just gonna claim it and do Cuyamaca but it turns out that that is the one hike the dogs are allowed on. Yay. So anyway...$8. Just like a mtn in SW Oregon. Park to the right and then meander through the campground and then cut left to LO peak road. Then just walk the paved road to the summit. Some views along the road, pretty open, a little forest. Tower structures on top. Scrambled up the summit rocks which are a little weird to get to. I rate it class 2. Elvis says class 4 and not claw compatible. THen hiked down. Bit of a drive from Arcadia but whatever. Fairly popular peak with numerous people out and about. Trail options might be more pleasant than a paved roadwalk if you are sans doggy.
