Ascent Trip ReportI choose to start from California Creek Trail head blast up to Penguin Ridge down to the valley and up the south east side of 1445. I would not recommend this route... unless you want to blast your legs... 8k up/down over 12 miles is a lot no mater what way you slice it. I would recommend starting from Bird Valley Trail Head.
It's pretty thick devils club, alders, and trees after leaving the Beaver Pond trail to at least 1,500ft, maybe 1,800ft from the start. After 2,000ft ish it it fairly smooth sailing to the top of the ridge. I tried to angle left to hit closer to the saddle. Going down I stayed left of the creek. Heading down to the valley was pretty easy to pick openings through the alders. Same goes for the ascent of 1445. There were alders, but it wasn't too find safe passage through them. The summit is pretty broad and very low key. If the route didn't have the bush whacking at the start it might be a better route, but there is a shit tonne of devils club at the start.
