Ascent Trip ReportThis is the easy hike I think I've ever done and Dan said the same thing. The first mile or so is on an old jeep road, wide with minimal elevation gain. Then the road ends at a small foot bridge that crosses a small stream. The next mile or so is now single track, but still with minimal elevation gain. Then the trail comes to a small cairn and a sign that points uphill and says it's 1.0 miles to the summit. That final mile to the summit is the only real hiking involved out of the three miles up and it was still relatively easy.
There was a couple inches of snow on the ground on our hike from the past few weeks of colder weather. But on our hike it was in the upper 30s (it was in the low to mid-40s in town). So the snow was slushy and wet. We both wore our Microspikes from the car because the wet snow was kinda slippery.
This was a really easy hike and although I feared climbing what I heard was the tallest fire tower in the Adirondacks, it didn't appear any taller than several of the other fire towers we've climbed recently. It was a pretty skinny fire tower and it did have 3 guide wires to steady it from high winds at the summit. We climbed it no problem and the top cabin was open. The summit was completely walled in with thick grey clouds so there was zero view to be had. This is the first summit we've hiked together that had no view because of clouds.
We both agreed we'd like to hike this one again in the summer on a nice clear day.
