Ascent Trip Report

Stayed overnight in New Iberia and drove over in the morning. Arrived around 8:30 at the gated entrance with all the "No Trespassing" + "Keep out" signs. I was early (had a 12:30 flight home from New Orleans), so I decided to find the "Office" and ask permission to visit. I drove North about 300 yds to an entrance (forget the name of the company), and made my way in to the "Main Office". Turns out this is some other company, and Morton (as in the salt) owns the land where the high point is. Since I had no idea where that office was, I drove back to the gated entrance and made my way in - planning to claim "I got permission from the Office". About 30 seconds after I started walking in along the road (past the no trespassing sign), a man in a grader pulled up and beeped the horn. I walked back out and told him I went to the "main office" and they are aware I am here. He said they don't like anyone on the property, but if they said OK, then I could proceed. I quickly made a dash in, followed the same route Ben Lostracco mentioned, grabbed the high point on top of the ridge, and made my way back out, in to the car, and left as quickly as possible..... I got the feeling they really don't like people visiting here and there are surveillance in use. Be careful....
