Ascent Trip Report

Rough hike. Friday then Balsam Cap from Moon Haw Road. Thought we'd get to Lone & Rocky, but it took a while to get to the summit of Friday. Instruments only navigation from the summit of Friday to the summit of Balsam Cap. One report said suggested equipment would be "full body armor". We laughed at that beforehand and nodded in agreement afterward. Thick balsam and spruce boles almost everywhere - tough to get through.

It was tough to find a route to the summit of Friday, lots of cliffs/overhangs. A little bit of rope would have helped, but not much. We stumbled on a herd path not far from the summit of Balsam Cap; that was a welcome respite. We followed an old logging road for the last mile or so to the road - even that was tough going. This hike makes anything with a trail on it easy.
