Ascent Trip Report

Started at the Garden parking lot at 7am. Took the trail past John Brooks Lodge and continued towards Slant Rock. This 6.9 mile trek is uneventful with only rolling hills and minor rocky areas. The only challenge is the distance but the walk is interesting enough along the brook and large growth trees in some areas.
It had been light raining all night and continued all morning. Once I made to Slant rock at 10am the elevation was high enough the snow flurries starting mixing in. Although it was very cloudy once in awhile I could see snow on the tops of lower peaks. When I saw this I realized things weren't going to get easier.
From Slant rock I took the 1.1 mile Shorty's Short Cut trail to the ridge trail. Snow increased as I climbed. There is a few difficult areas of climbing in this section but nothing a little careful route planning can't handle. From the ridge trail it is .7 miles to the summit of Basin. This went quick but it is steep in sections and care should be taken to pick safe routes through difficult areas. With 2 inches of snow these sections became a little more difficult.
I bagged this Solo summit at 11:50 am. Number 38/46 for me. The summit was windy, a little cold and the view wasn't there. To bad, it would have been wonderful with the light snow fall.
