Ascent Trip Report

I give this one a 3. It was easy to find. Easy to park. I caught the woods in full fall color and I had the hike to myself and actually got a little exercise. That aint too bad.

Using previous reports, I chose the well graded road to the west entrance that winds up and around the HP. There is some poorly formed trail-drive to the east that is more direct but it was getting dark and needed to play it if safe. I drove up part way and found the field that Bob Schwab reported and yes you could park there. It was near dark and starting to rain and on the way up the steep drive some of the washouts were banging my little rental car so I did a 3 point turn by the field and drove the car down pointing the way out in case it got dark on me.

I jogged down to the field where the FAA maintenance road meets Frenchman Knob Road. I made that soggy depression my Trailhead. Past the field that Schwab mentions is the official gate but it was open and inviting so......I continued on. I then jogged up to the tower without incident and jogged back down. There are some views along the way but my hike evolved from a near dusk drizzle to a fairly dark cold rain and I got back to the car quickly. Took me around 20 minutes to run up and down.
