Ascent Trip Report

You will see a lot of history if you visit all 9 possibilities in Edgefield County, the home of 10 governors. LiDAR says the highest point is behind the water tank at spot elevation 677. This is on McDaniel Drive, a dirt road that runs southwest from US25/Augusta Hwy south of Edgefield. This is one case where the LiDAR elevation 677.4782 verifies the old USGS spot elevation of 677.

However, I wouldn't rule out spot elevation 678, which is behind an old farmhouse on SC23 northeast of the town of Johnston.

LiDAR says the Edgefield SC COHP is behind this water tower on McDaniel Drive off US25/Augusta Road south of the town of Edgefield. I wouldn't rule out spot elevation 678 near Johnston and maybe other areas. (2014-10-20). Photo by Tom Layton.
