Ascent Trip Report

Two "rivals" -- Bob Packard and Ken Jones -- on the summit of Duffer Peak in NW Nevada. Four of us, also including Duane Gilliland, climbed this one together because of its high prominence of over 4,000 feet. Mr. Packard has now summitted over 1,000 peaks with at least 2,000 feet of prominence (P2000s or P2Ks), while Mr. Jones has over 900, and they are 1-2 in the world in that category of peakbagging. Ken is around 20 years Bob's junior, so he has a very good chance of surpassing Bob in the years to come, but nobody can take away Bob's record of being first to 1,000! Congratulations to both. (FWIW, both Duane and I are ahead of these two gents on lower 48 peaks with over 4,000 feet of prominence. Duane was second to complete that list, and I have one more to go that as of summer 2018 I'm not at all sure I'll ever be able to climb.)
