Ascent Trip Report

Ontario (17B)(6X), Bighorn (17C)(5X)
Scheduled hike with Doris Duval as primary leader and I was one of here co-leader. This was a double list finish on Ontario – Zobedia’s 7X and Bill Simpson 2nd Lead List. There were four groups – two going up Falling rock canyon to Sugarloaf and Ontario. Two groups going up Ice House Canyon to saddle to Ontario. I was in the group going up Ice House. There were about 40 people total on the hike. We took the trail to the saddle, then the trail to Kelly’s Camp, then on to Ontario. On the way back, I signed out of Doris’s group and John Radajl did Bighorn. The use trail to Bighorn takes off just past Waypoint 19. The way up was a well defined use trail, rolling up and down to the final 200’ of gain to the top. Going down to the saddle was not as well defined. It starts out following the ridge, then curves to the left as it goes down the ridge to the saddle. Water was good at Columbine Spring.
