Ascent Trip ReportPerfect day for hiking. Did the Thunderbolt Ski Trail up, starting at the end of Thiel Rd. in Adams, MA. Given that this was an absolutely beautiful Sunday in peak foliage season, I didn't expect to be alone on the mountain... but the crowds at the top were ridiculous! Only saw about 10 cars where I parked at the base, but forgot about all the idiots that would be driving up there from Boston today. Right near the summit, I actually had to wait for a line of cars driving up the auto road to pass! Never had that happen to me before on a mountaintop. The high concentration of screaming children and their corresponding adults asking stupid questions like "so this is the highest point in Vermont, right?" and "are there bears up here?" kind of ruined the atmosphere at summit for me, but not the view, which was amazing today, even if inconsiderate jerks did get in the way of a couple of my pictures.
