Ascent Trip ReportBrian & I plan a goal to do all 10 4,000 foot peaks in the Rangley Maine are.Today we did the Bigelow's .West Peak & Avery.Today's weather was nice but hot...We started up the Firewarden trail ...Pretty gentle at 1st but it turns steep about halfway up.At AT junction we met a thru hiker chatted a bit & continued to West Peak
Got to West peak & the views were incredible .Could see all the lakes in the area ....Took in the views for awhile then headed to Avery.Got to the summit & went over to the foundation to have lunch. When we looked into the foundation we saw the survey markers & there was lots of flying ants so we ate lunch by the plaque .
we started down & the 1st time since I've been hiking I ran out of water when we hit the AT Firewarden junct. ...Temps were in the 80's so it was a hot & thirsty hike down.Brian had the idea of dipping out bandana's in the water & putting on our heads to keep us cool..This really helped & we made it to the bottom.
A nice 1st hike in Maine .Can't wait to do the others
