Ascent Trip Report

Nickols Knob is the HP of Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline Park at Point Richmond.
Easily accessed: turn off I-580W at Canal Blvd-R on Cutting Blvd-L on S. Garrard
Blvd-R on W. Richmond Ave, past Tunnel Ave and Park Pl to Washington Ave-L on Washington uphill past Nicholl Ave and Scenic Ave to Crest Ave-L on Crest one block to the locked gate. The well used Crest Tr continues straight ahead,up the moderately steep slope less than 1/4 mile to the level summit area, which is topped by a microwave transmitter and offers several wooden benches for relaxing and enjoying the view. The view is outstanding, certainly one of the best of the SF Bay from San Francisco to Marin. I returned to the TH by the slightly longer paved service road, an extension of Crest Ave. An easy, very rewarding hike on a nice day--highly recommended.

Note that the name "Nickols Knob" appears on the USGS Quadrangle map, but the EBRPD map of the Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline uses the name "Nicholl Knob."
