Ascent Trip ReportThis particular Bald Knob in West Virginia is on the southern end of Canaan Valley. It can be reached on foot or skis from Canaan Valley State Park or Whitegrass Ski Touring. Climbs from both locations are around 900-1000 ft. Most people visit a rocky overlook on the gas pipeline cut and call it a successful day. The high point is to the southeast of the overlook, along the obvious ridge of huckleberry heath and spruce. We've visited the area dozens of times. Cold days after a major snowstorm typically offer the most dramatic scenes. |
