Ascent Trip ReportAfter our morning ascent of Pourianos Stavros we drive north to the village of Spilia. The SatNav isn't too helpful in finding a route to the trailhead: needs routing via the village centre. We park at Petter Bjorstad's trailhead: hairpin on concrete road N39.79509 E22.65076 860m and start hiking at 1550.
From here, following Petter's route we climb the bank, head half-right across a grassy area, follow edge of gorge to N39.79365 E22.65523 where a good trail descends c.20m to cross the ravine and climbs out L on the far side. Then through gappy scrub to reach foot of mountain and follow animal tracks up through the initial scrub. Higher up there's a cairned route with a reasonable trail up the loosish stony slope. The lowest cairn we find is at N39.79617 E22.66517, 1314m. It passes immediately L of a prominent crag then follows the crest which becomes progressively more scenic as height is gained. We cross a small scenic rocky top. narrower rocky crest with steep drops to the R, leads to the summit which has a bell, a trig pillar and a (mostly underground) shelter/shrine? (I don't remove the improvised door to look inside.
We spend 15mins at the summit before heading back down the trail. We bypass the little cairned top to its L - involving some awkward rubbly sidehilling - not recommended. When the cairns run out it's necessary to keep L of the fall line but R of the scrub - animal tracks lead the way.
We're back at the car in 3h25 with 2h up and 15mins at the summit. This completes our Greek ultras - a nice varied set of summits which has taken two 1 week trips, on April (snowy) and September (ideal).
