Ascent Trip Report

At Upper Boy Scout Lake, we took the Rockwell variation up to the saddle. I would not recommend this route to anyone. Terrible footing on loose sand and gravel for about 2,000ft up to the saddle. Nice scramble on the east ridge to the summit. If you want to avoid most of the exposure, it's easy to stay on the north side of the ridge. Back at the saddle, we took about 20 minutes to climb Carillon and then descended the standard route back to the lake. More loose sand and rock on this route, but there is a more defined path to follow which would help with the footing on the ascent. Only 11 miles roundtrip but an 11 hour day.
