Ascent Trip Reportaka Kaimaktsalan. Early morning we finish the drive across from yesterday's Radomir climb. Passing a few signs for Voras ski centre en route, we set the SatNav for the ski lodge: locked barrier N40.90974 E21.81335 2030m: big parking area.
We walk the road past the barrier. Raining and thick mist and no sign of border police today but it advisable to carry passport. Where the road bends R we take the unpaved road which cuts back left and crosses a stream. From here we simply followed the ski lifts then dirt road to summit. However for a trail hike, follow the unpaved road to a building then go to L (directly uphill) on a rutted dirt road which bends R and follows the ridge, keeping L of the ski lifts. This road leads to the summit N40.93064 E21.78605, which is occupied by a shrine which today is a welcome shelter from the rain.
As well as the usual religious icons, the summit shrine has a register which we sign. Passing a couple of other buildings, we visit the NE summit N40.93115 E21.78706 which is a few metres lower and has a Greek trig pillar, a taller pillar and two trig bolts on concrete. From the summit, some attractive low crags herald the steep slopes on the Macedonian side.
We jog down the dirt road in 30 mins in pouring rain which continues as we drive back down, heading next for Smolikas.
