Ascent Trip ReportI hiked with Kiki and a few others for the "Flags on the 48" event. The weather was overcast, cool, and bug free. The hike up the Garfield trail was along the old access road so was well packed and worn. The elevation gain was gradual so we made good time as we zig zagged along the side of the mountain with multiple switchbacks. Once at the junction of the Garfield Ridge Trail, the temperature dropped and the wind picked up so I added a few layers before summiting. As I rounded the corner to the summit, the wind was howling in excess of 40 mph and the temperature was in the twenties (stats provided by Brian's windometer/temperature gadget). The peak was dotted with hikers working on raising the American flag to remember 9-11 as part of the FOT48 event. I mingled for 30 minutes and then headed out as Kiki was starting to shiver. About halfway down the mountain, it started to rain but the tree canopy shielded us from most of the precipitation.
