Ascent Trip ReportA reasonable summit trail after Mt Holmes...quick and direct and steep. Still a class 1 trail all the way up though...rare to be in Yellowstone and not be surrounded by burnt-down timber from the fire of '88.
Hazy day so you couldn't see too far, but Mt. Doane and the Absorokas looked spectacular and inspiring, especially with a fresh dusting of snow. Great bang for your buck; we stayed on the summit for an hour and fifteen minutes before jogging down.
Up in an hour, down in half an hour, dipped in Lake Eleanor by the parking lot afterward for the first showeresque experience in four days.
If I were to redo it, I would've gotten there an hour and a half earlier so I could bag Hoyt Peak on the other side of the saddle. Oh well. |
