Ascent Trip Report

Glenn Creek TH, up to the highest point in the Gallatins.

Great view of the Madisons (the Sphinx tho!), Mt. Immigrant, and Pilot and Index peaks out east. Cool view of the whole park, and the Absorokas were looking snowy! (We'd find more about that later.)

Coming from the Tetons, this was a weird hike...half the mileage was on relatively flat ground, which just seemed annoying. The 2.5 mile round-trip side trail to Cache Lake afforded incredible views of the peak; definitely worth the time. Hard to get in the lake though - its super boggy. The summit ridge was really long and didn't get really fun til about 2/3 of the way in.

On the way back, less than a mile from the car, we were stopped by a huge bison on the trail...we slowly and steadily navigated around it to within 15 feet. I suppose its not a Yellowstone trip if you don't run into one of these behemoths...
