Ascent Trip Report

Day hike on a 3-day Boy Scout trip over Labor Day weekend. Hiked in from Sonora Pass to Latopie via PCT on Saturday, then made our ascent on Sunday, returning to Sonora Pass on Monday. Ascent was via use trail from Latopie, then PCT to use trail up east ridge. Felt the peak ascent was actually easier than hiking in from Sonora Pass the day before. Surprised to find only one other group camping at Latopie and absolutely nobody on the peak. Ran into several groups aiming for Leavitt as we were hiking out the PCT on Monday, but they were far enough off and starting late enough that I suspect most wouldn't succeed.

Very high starting point at Sonora Pass (9624') makes the initial hike that much more challenging. Had one scout (Nick) who had pretty nasty altitude sickness after the ascent on Sunday. Snickers, Tylenol and sleep helped.
