Ascent of Mount Baker on 2014-08-28
|Date:||Thursday, August 28, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||9123 ft / 2780 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThe Easton route was very melted out. Had a difficult time getting up onto the glacier at the end of the ridge but eventually went straight up onto the blue ice. After lots of careful crevasse navigating in the dark we eventually made it to 9,123 feet before we hit a deep crevasse (50+ ft) with a sketchy snow bridge. Could see some footprints on the bridge from a group of 3 we spoke with the day before who had summited but the bridge was only 6 inches thick and wasn't worth the risk. Tried to find alternate ways across with no luck.
